What to do with a week in India?

I have a one week (but really more like 9 days) vacation in 3 weeks and I am going to India. I am starting off in New Delhi and the Taj Mahal is obviously a must but I don't know what else to do. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do during a weeks time there? What other things are worth seeing?

Answer :
One week is too less of time to visit the whole of India. After you watch Taj in New Delhi, take the flight to Jaipur and see the palaces in Deserts. Then take flight to Ganktok a north Eastern place. Stay not more than a day, and see what you can visit around that place.

Every place (state) in India has different culture, food, language, climate and geography.

Then head towards south taking a flight to Bangalore. Then from there to Mysore, city of palaces on road. And then go to Goa through railways. And from there to Kerala and finally to Kanyakumari, the southern tip of India. And from there go to chennai on road and take a flight to your homeland.

This way you will cover most of the major cities in not too expensive budget.

Bon Voyage.

Answer :
It nice to know that your are planning to visit India. As you mention that you have 9 days so i suggest you to choose any tour package which cover major destination of india.

Who built taj mahal in india?

Who built taj mahal in india?

Answer :
Taj Mahal was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal.

Please visit below site for all information:
http://www.tajmahalagra.com/story-of-taj…

Answer :
Shah Jahan met Mumtaz Mahal and fell in love. He married her after five years and they were leading a very happy life. While giving birth to their last child, Mumtaz Mahal died due to some complications. A few years later Shah Jahan built the world's most beautiful monument "Taj Mahal" in the memory of his wife.

One of the wonders of the world "Taj Mahal" has a beautiful love story behind its construction. Taj Mahal love story is about Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal. Shah Jahan, initially named Prince Khurram, took birth in the year 1592. The son of Jehangir, the fourth Mughal emperor of India, he fell in love in Arjumand Banu Begum at first time. At that time he was 14 years old and she, a Muslim Persian princess, was 15. After meeting her, Shah Jahan went back to his father and declared that he wanted to marry her. Read on to know more about the love story behind Taj Mahal of Agra…

The match got solemnized after five years i.e., in the year 1612. Shah Jahan became the Emperor in the year 1628 and entrusted Arjumand Banu with the royal seal. He also bestowed her with the tile of Mumtaz Mahal, meaning the "Jewel of the Palace". Though Shah Jahan had other wives also, but, Mumtaz Mahal was his favorite and accompanied him everywhere, even on military campaigns. In the year 1631, when Mumtaz Mahal was giving birth to their 14th child, she died due to some complications.

It is said that Shah Mahal was so heartbroken after her death that he ordered the court into morning for two years. Some time after her death, Shah Jahan undertook the task of erecting the world's most beautiful monument in the memory of his beloved. It took 22 years and the labor of 22,000 workers to construct the monument, which is also said to be the last wish of Mumtaz Mahal. This magnificent monument came to be known as "Taj Mahal" and now counts amongst the Seven Wonders of the World.

This is the true story of the Taj Mahal of India, which has mesmerized many people with its bewitching beauty.

Answer :
The most beautiful building in the world. In 1631 the emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal in memory of his wife Mumtaz, who died in childbirth. The white marble mausoleum at Agra has become the monument of a man's love for a woman.

Shah Jahan came to power in 1622 when he seized the throne from his father, while murdering his brothers to ensure his claim to rule. He was known as an extravagant and cruel leader. But he redeemed himself by his generosity to his friends and the poor, by his passion in adorning India with some of its most beautiful architecture, and by his devotion to his wife Mumtaz Mahal - "Ornament of the Palace." He had married her when he was 21, when he already had two children by an earlier consort. Mumtaz gave her husband 14 children in eighteen years, and died at the age of 39 during the birth of the final child. Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal as a monument to her memory and her fertility, but then relapsed into a life of scandalous behavior. This tomb was only one of hundreds of beautiful buildings that Shah Jahan erected, mostly at Agra and in the new Dehli that came into being under his planning.

Many architects have rated it as the most perfect of all buildings standing on earth. Three artists designed it: a Persian, an Italian, and a Frenchman. But the design is completely Mohammedan. Even the skilled artisans who built it were brought in from Baghdad, Constantinople, and other centers of the Muslim faith. For 22 years more than 20,000 workmen were forced to build the Taj. The Maharaja of Jaipur sent the marble as a gift to Shah Jahan. The building and its surroundings cost more than $200,000,000 in todays currency.

Passing through a high wall, one comes suddently upon the Taj - raised upon a marble platform, and framed on either side by handsome mosques and stately minarets. In the foreground spacious gardens enclose a pool in whose waters the inverted palace becomes a quivering dream. Every portion of the structure is of white marble, precious metals, or costly stones. The building is a complex figure of twelve sides, four of which are portals. A slender minaret rises at each corner, and the roof is a massive spired dome. The main entrance, once guarded with solid silver gates, is a maze of marble embroidery; inlaid in the wall in jeweled script are qotations from the Koran, one of which invites the "pure in heart" to enter "the gardens of Paradise."

Shah Jahan had begun his reign by killing his brothers; but he had neglected to kill his sons, one of whom was destined to overthrow him. In 1657 his son Aurangzeb led an insurrection from the Deccan. Aurangzeb defeated all the forces sent against him, captured his father, and imprisoned him in the Fort of Agra. For 9 bitter years the deposed emperor lingered there, never visited by his son, attended only by his faithful daughter Jahanara, and spending his days looking from the Jasmine Tower of his prison across the Jumna to where his once-beloved Mumtaz lay in her jeweled tomb.

The new emperor Aurangzeb was a more pious Muslim than his father Shah Jahan had been. He memorized the entire Koran, spent days in fasts, and campaigned against infidelity. He cared little for luxuries, but, paradoxically, gave the world one of its most perfect works of art: a marble screen inside the Taj Mahal. Native and European thieves robbed the tomb of its abundant jewels, and of the gold railing, encrusted with precious stones, that once enclosed the sarcophagi of Shah Jahan and his Queen. Aurangzeb replaced the railing with an octagonal screen of almost transparent marble, carved into a miracle of alabaster lace. Few products of human art have ever surpassed the beauty of this screen.

From afar the Taj Mahal, with its delicate details, is not imposing. Only a nearer view reveals that its perfection has no proportion to its size. When in our hurried times, we see enormous structures of a hundred stories raised in a year, and then consider how 20,000 men worked for 22 years on this little tomb, hardly a hundred feet high, we begin to sense the difference between industry and art. And perhaps more importantly, we sense the ultimate lesson it offers: beauty and that which lasts, is based on love.

Answer :
Considering that you have failed in history several time , it is high time you change over to other discipline. It also appears that you have never been in love or not yet married. But if you are talking about Taj Mahal hotel at Mumbai , it was built by Tatas .

Can help with report ideas about India? Not information, just TOPICS.?

My nephew (age 11) has a project that I am helping him with. He has to write an ABC picture book about India. He has to have one thing pertaining to India for each letter of the alphabet. He has to write about it and give two facts abut each. So far, he is doing great, but we are having trouble coming up with a word or topic for L, O, Q, U, W, X, and Z. It can be anything, such as a city, religious symbol, river, mountain, cultural reference, person from India, etc. (some of the things we already have are Ashoka, Buddha, Calcutta, Ganges River, Himalayas, Monsoon, Taj Mahal, Yoga just to give you examples of what we need). He can do the research. We just need some suggested words for those last 7 letters. Any suggestions would be very helpful, especially if you have something for Q, X, or Z. Thanks

Answer :
L = Lassi, my favorite is the mango lassi which is a refreshing fruit yogurt drink

O = Ounce. 1 oz = 28.35 gms = 1 fl. oz = 29.57 ml = 1/8 cup = 6 tsp. = 2 tbsp.
1 tbsp = 3 tsp. India uses metric system for measurements.

Q = Queen Elizabeth I - granted the Honourable East India Company (HEIC), an English Royal Charter on December 31, 1600, with the intention of favouring trade privileges in India. The Royal Charter effectively gave the newly created HEIC a 21 year monopoly on all trade in the East Indies. The Company transformed from a commercial trading venture to one that virtually ruled India as it acquired auxiliary governmental and military functions, until its dissolution in 1858.

U = Uttar Pradesh. Situated in the northern part of India, it is the most populated state of India. In terms of area, it is the fourth largest among all the states.

W = West Bengal. Anoter state of India known as the gateway to the exotic east. West Bengal covers the bottleneck of India in the east, stretching from the Himalayas in the north to the Bay of Bengal in the south. Countries that share international boundaries with West Bengal include Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal while Sikkim, Assam, Orissa and Bihar frame its domestic borders. The alluvial plain in the south is watered by the legendary River Hooghly and its tributaries. The Himalayan north, comprising the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Bihar are watered by the swift flowing rivers Tista, Torsa, Jaldhaka and Ranjit.

X = "Xcuse Me" a 2003 Indian movie comedy. Plot summary: Chantu and Bantu are unemployed, and are able to get any employment due to lack of experience. They come across an advertisement for hotel management trainees in Goa, and make their way there. Once there, they hoodwink the trainer by posing as the nephew of the owner of the hotel, and thus enroll themselves in the training course. They set about making enemies by exposing several employees and guests, and earning their wrath, and in the process end up wooing the daughters of the two owners of the hotel. Things turn sore for the two, when the guests and former employees get together to avenge their humiliation.

Z = Zoroastrian, an Indian religion. The Parsis account for less than 0.007% of the Indian population, but as Mahatma Gandhi said, they are "in number beneath contempt, but in contribution, beyond compare." The same could be said of their festivals. Unfortunately, like the Parsis themselves, these are private and celebrated primarily within the community.

Answer :
L...Lucknow

O...Orissa

Q...Qutb-ud-din Aibak

U...Uttar Pradesh or Urdu

W...West Bengal

X...Xerxes (believed to be Ahasuerus in Book of Esther; see Esther 1:1)

Z...Zain-ul-Abidin

---------------------------------------…

Because India has many religions, including Islam, and given many Muslim names are from Arabic, Q and Z are "solvable" by going to parts of India which are/were heavily Muslim.

X required some brainpower.

Answer :
Here are a few suggestions with intentionally brief pointers, so your nephew can still do the research.

LAKSHMI -- A Hindu goddess.

ORISSA -- An indian state.

QUR'AN -- The sacred text of Islam, which is the religion of around 15% of Indians.

UTTAR PRADESH -- an Indian state
URDU -- One of India's official languages

WETLANDS -- India has lots of them
WEST BENGAL -- in Indian state
WICKET -- An essential piece of equipment for India's most popular sport, cricket.

XENOPHILE -- This may be a stretch, but X is pretty hard ... I'd argue that in a country as hugely diverse as India there's got to be a lot of xenophiles. (Failing that, maybe go for XYLOPHONE, but I couldn't verify that there were any Indian musical traditions that used them).

ZOOLOGY -- India has a variety of unique fauna.

Is this really good enough please tell?

i have written a speech myself for the speech orientation contest. is this good??? please tell me

topic ----------- MY COUNTRY INDIA

india is a country of beautiful traditions and cultures. it is very rich in culture and its tradition. It has many beautiful places such as goa, jammu and kashmir etc........ india also has one of the seven wonders of the world - taj mahal. indian people are very intelligent and hard working. india is also a very rich country. but, something is lacking in between all these things. indians are very hard working and intelligent but the only problem is the division between rich and poor. rich indians disrespect poor indians. this is one social evil. there are many social evils like that. the division between rich and poor is in many countries but the maximum division between rich and poor is in india. they treat the poor people as animals. that is very bad. that arrogance of being rich and attitude should not be there in any human being not only an indian. i dont say that all the indians are arrogant, some indians are very kind and very helping. now a days, indians have forgot about their own traditions and cultures. they have stopped following culture. now, they do not believe in the indian cultures and they want to live a care free life. everyone wants to be independent. thats good but it does'nt mean that you can completely forget about your parents. very few have patriotism and respect for india. India is land of villages. there are many villages in india. there are not enjoying that much facility as is being enjoyed by people living in the cities. in the villages, there is so much population also and most of them are illiterates. the villagers are very superstitious also. these things are a part of the social evil. and one more thing his unity. only very few people of india are united. the people of india are becoming selfish. i live in a colony and in that colony there are about 455 people. all the ladies form groups and talk. they insult each other. one says that i am punjabi and punjabis are the most intelligent people. one says i am a south indian and south indians are the best. like this they fight and form groups. recently in south, i heard some people saying, see! a south indian has achieved a oscar for india and some people in north saying, see! he has made our north india proud. this is totally wrong. you should be happy not for a south, west, east or a north indian has achieved a oscar or whatever you should be happy for an indian has made your country proud. think if in a colony itself, people are not united and then what about the country and the world. according to me, first the country should be united then the world should be united. please join hands and stand united. end this violence and bring peace to the world so that we can live peacefully.

Answer :
