Has journalism become an industry having no sanctity & professionalism as once Kuldip Nayar said?

Journalism involves perfectly neutral reporting, not selectively hiding any fact at all free from any mindset, emotion, patriotism, prejudice, bias & favouring benefit of anybody or group. Now a days, print media reporting & press conference have become idustries. Press persons gather in large numbers only where there is a big treat, presents in brief cases(filled with currency notes & costly ornaments etc along with a brief press note). They enjoy 5 -star type parties, take a lot of whisky & move out, printing few lines of the press note provided by hosts. That's why, they attend press conferences of either big industrialists or high profile ministers so that they get such hefty bribes. These things are presented so that they refrain from writing against them. Once, Maharastra state govt. of India alotted a plot of land to every journalist in Navi Mumbai(New Bombay). Most of the journalists were sent invitations in form of printed cards but now it is sent by mobile phone SMS & the hosts convey messages by their subordinates that it will have grand feast with imported heavy liquors too in Taj Mahal or Oberoi hotel etc. When there is some event of big news value, the reporters are missing but at the end everyone tries to tell that he reached first, hoodwinking public. TV correspondents too earn heavily from such open bribery.
Once in 90s Indian Hockey Federation(IHF)'s chief's election was to take place in Bhopal & an old Olympian Mohd Ghufran was nominated. K P S Gill , a Sikh so called supercop, never played hockey was nominated against him. His musclemen seized the whole city Bhopal one day before election & threatened all concerned members. At last Gill got elected unopposed b coz Ghufran withdrew his nomination under threat to his life at the last moment. In press conference, Gill spent heavily on non-veg & liquor party for journalists & golden chains too were presented to all. After treats, a journalist asked Gill , " How could you be elected unopposed against Ghufran, the hockey wizard when you never played hockey ?" Another one asked, "Have you ever played Gulli Danda even & got elected unopposed for IHF?" On this, his musclemen held those two journalists, pulled, lifted, beated heavily & threw them away mercilessly so much that a rib bone of one was broken & other one too sustained heavy injuries. Next day Gill apologised. After that episode only journalists suddenly started writing against him about his operations in Indian Punjab, killing large number of innocent Sikhs in fake encounters & he having illegal sex relations with ladies too in that old age,...etc. Before that they never reported those CORRECT things & praising him like anything giving him full credit for ending Khalistan terrorist movement. Clearly, correct news were suppressed through bribes. So, balanced reportings of events by presenting both bright & dark side of the picture "equally" is missing. Why ? Because, journalism has become an unprincipled industry. Journalists MUST NOT ACCEPT GIFTS & TREATS. Otherwise, it is corruption. Film personalities pay 5-star hotel stay bills of journalists too from their own pockets. General feeling is that most of great people are scared of journalists. One editor of Times group said that only 30 % corrupt journalists did so, not all. People believe 100 % are so ? What is correct situation ? How can this evil be eliminated ?

http://www.real-debt-elimination.com/images/india_attacker_mumbai_taj_mahal_palace_hotel.jpg

illl upload another picture of two women

Answer :
Well done, you punked 17 of 'em in just a quarter of an hour.

And I agree with the one you didn't punk. This type of joke is old hat. That photograph is from the very tragic terrorist attack in Mumbai, India several months ago. It is a bit tasteless, even for someone with a juvenile sense of humour, to use something like that, where so many innocent people died, for a lame joke.

Answer :
First, just because they are muslim does not mean they are suicide bombers. Second, how do you know they said they were going to blow up your house if they were speaking in muslim? If you are this scared, just call the police and file a report or ask for an investigation. Tell them about the guns and everything. They will probably handle it.............And in the future, just realize that just because someone comes from the same race as someone like Osama Bin Laden does not mean that they are like him. These prejudice thoughts are what is dividing the world today. Hope i helped

Answer :
lmao u jus made my day,
but ya call the fbi, he looks scary xD
or just say yimyack, something like that,
it means "fag" or "idiot" my friends sister got married to
a muslim, and theres a muslim kid in my class, i heard they
try to act ghetto?? lol stereotype
build a ford, and protect yourself. :p

Answer :
That's just not even funny. Muslims are good people, and like with any religion it only takes a few to ruin them all. In a time when someone can waltz into a museum to kill Innocent people because of their religion, do you really want to be encouraging fear of another religion. Hatred always begins with fear.

Answer :
You spineless, pipsqueak, nymph. Your "SCARED!!"?

Why are Americans so cowardly and spineless?

Why don't you go and walk up to their apartment, knock on the door, shake their hands and say, "Hi, I am you neighbor next door, just wanted to say hello"

Maybe that way they wont think of you as some petrified, shivering piece of trash who actually has some muscle in his arms.

Answer :
wow.
seriously, your the certified asshole for the day?
whats your prize?
a million dollars.

I think al quadea Lives next door (picutre Included)?

Newark, New Jersey? The reason I ask in my next door neighbor, in Apartment 106, resembles him and also displays a very disturbing behavior. He is about 5'8" he speaks with a Middle Eastern accent. I looked at his mailbox covertly and the name on it is "John Smith"...yeah, right....I've snooped through his mail and he gets mercenary magazines. Other mail he gets includes...GQ, the New Yorker and the Boeing Company newsletters. I tried contacting the FBI, but they said they had limited manpower and couldn't check every "crackpot" lead...their words. I'm wondering if I should place him under "citizen's arrest" Your thoughts???

I have a Pic i took of Him Leaving the park I think he is holding a weapon
http://www.real-debt-elimination.com/images/india_attacker_mumbai_taj_mahal_palace_hotel.jpg
On my website

Answer :
I'm not even surprised the FBI won't come, I got Wilma Flinstone being abused next door and ain't nobody comin' to check on that house! :O
On another note, that's not Al Qaeda, that's Al Paeda.
Al Qaeda reads Esquire, not GQ.
Good Luck! :)

Answer :
uhm thats a little wierd that you rlooking through his mail and taking pictures of him and i personally wouldnt make a citizens arrest on somebody with a gun

Muslim leadership - Ultimate answer for prosperous India?

Many may jump to say "Let Muslims lead themselves first and then bother about leading the nation". Please cool down and don't get emotional.

Let us keep an open mind and look into the situation. Despite making it's mark in all walks of science and technology, why India could NOT provide better quality of life for 70% of it's population who do NOT have access to toilets and clean water?. Why India has become silent on the regional superpower dream and Dr.Kalam's vision 2020?. Why do we look inferior compared to China?.

The naked truth is staring right on our face. Overpopulation. 1.2+ billion ever growing silent nightmare called overpopulation. It's a bottomless pit. Can we ever get out of it?. Is the ship sinking?.

How Muslim leadership can resolve overpopulation crisis?:

There are 55 OIC Islamic nations whose combined land and mineral resources is 15 times more than India. Out of 1.7 billion Muslim population, around 1.1 billion is living across 10 countries - Indian subcontinent, Indonesia, Malaysia and the rest of SE Asia. Around 600 million, 50% of India's population, is spread across 40 Islamic countries which is very low population density by world standards. Today, the Muslim world is living under the threat of US and Israel. Countries like Iraq and Afghanistan are living examples of US+Israel invasion. The only way to protect their lands and resources is to allow migration and populate with able manpower.

Quran gives unequivocal mandate for Muslims living outside Darul Islam to migrate and live in Darul Islam. Muslim leadership can negotiate with 55 OIC nations and openup opportunity for 250 million Muslims to migrate and rebuild their homes in Darul Islam. Forget the likes of Shahrukh Khans and Amir Khans. More than 80% Muslims have got nothing to loose and they will be very happy to migrate for better hopes.

This will create space for 250 million non Muslims in India. Also it will create millions of jobs for Hindus for another 50 years. Above all, this will bring ultimate peace and prosperity in the subcontinent.

Blueprint to make India, a true world leader. 850 million Hindus should give this mandate for a new Indian Muslim leadership.

Will Muslim leadership compromise Hindu identity?.

A valid fear. Narendra Modi likes to call Muslims "Babur ke aulad - Children of Babur". Let him get his facts right. More than 60% of Indian Muslims are Shudra converts who renounced Hinduism to escape the caste based discrimination and suppression. The rest are from other high castes. Who is Babur ke aulad?. Look at Taj Mahal. Shahjehan is the true Babur ke aulad. Majority Hindus think that Taj Mahal is a Muslim holy shrine. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In fact, this is an unIslamic structure. Shahjehan constructed a Mosque like structure on the cemetry of his wife and worshipped (ibadad) her for the rest of his life, ignoring the duty and welfare for his citizens. This is "shirq" in Islam. A simple Mosque in a Muslim "mohallah" is much more dearer for us than Taj Mahal, which has got nothing to do with our faith Islam.

Ample historic evidence proves that Taj Mahal was originally called as Tejo Mahalaya, a palace temple of Lord Shiva.
http://www.stephen-knapp.com/was_the_taj…

To win the trust and confidence of 800 million Hindus, 250 million Muslims should demand for the restoration of original Tejo Mahalaya. It's high time to kick out the ghost of Babur and 1947 partition.

Answer :
attempts are being made cleverly by some people to divide indians on the basis of caste, creed and religion.
the need of the hour is the unity of all Indians to thwart the attempts of terrorists internal and external of all kinds.
why some fellows don't regard muslims as human beings?
except religion, don't they have any problems?
Now the time has come for all muslims to question their leaders who are responsible for their economic, political and social backwardness.
Intelligent and rationalist muslims must teach a lesson to the power monger leaders who always treat them as vote bank.
they are to revolt against all types of dogmatic beliefs and join the mains stream politics and strengthen the hands of the have nots of other religions .

Answer :
I know why you say muslim leadership. Look, you are a fundementalist muslim (Accept it, because it is your ulterior motive) but there are moderate muslims too who are intellects. Its because of fundamentalists, they dont come out in open. They hate being a muslim at times because of fundamentalist approach aquired by the others.

Your whole idea of moving to 55 islamic nations itself is a hoax. Fundamentalists want power so you dream about making fundamentalists come to power so that you can convert hindus, etc to islam. "islamistan" is a combination of pakistan and india.. This is what every fundamentalist muslim dreams about, 24/7.

Trust me, the day will come when hindus will become united with moderate muslims and fundamentalist muslims will be made to bite the dust.

That day india will prosper because congress will seize to exist as their main support base of fundamentalist muslims will be thrown out. No more instigation of riots and no more bloodshed by jihadis. Hindus who were thirsty for justice will finally get it. They'll embrace moderate muslims as their brothers and sisters. That day will come.

Answer :
i gotta hand it to you... i never thought i'd find myself agreeing with the likes of "Lonewolf" up there about anything, but you've managed to bring us together.

tell me, how prosperous was Palestine prior to 1948? not very, was it?

how prosperous is it now, after 61 years of jewish control?

i thought so.

sorry, you lose. only the truly retarded invites a wolf to live in his chicken coop. inviting a muslim to influence a nation politically will have the same effect. sooner or later, the wackos will assert their dominance, and Sharia WILL be imposed. how'd that work out for the people of Afghanistan?

Answer :
No, India does not need Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Christian, etc leadership. India needs good leadership, India needs Indian leadership and India needs strong leadership. We have that. You don't have to worry about that and look for alternatives. India is not lacking leaders. So don't worry.

Answer :
Yeah, okay just like Afghanistan ....

D best way is NO RELIGiON'S LEADERSHIP

sorry 2 say dis but u r 1 RACIST person

why don't u get outta ur room and help someone poor who needs help and make their life better, rather dan writing ur ideas.

My advice- it'l b lot better if u even help at least one person.......than wasting ur time on writing blogs and ur crazy ideas. KEEP THEM 2 URSELF, coz in a free, loving, independent world- racist ideas r not welcome.

thank u

How could I embilish this?

my first chapter. Sorry its so long

1

I opened my eyes, slowly, unwillingly, and touched my fangs. They reassured me, that I was invincible, and not dead. Nate rests beside me. I can feel his pulse reverberate through mine. I lean over and kiss him gently on lips, down his chin, stopping on his neck.
“Sophia.” He says slowly.
“What? I simply want you awake. It’s time to get to school.” I say. Even as I speak, I feel a shiver down my spine. Not because I’m cold, obviously, because I fear school. Besides my boyfriend, Nate, I fear social attraction. I crave the loneliness, calm, quiet solitude. Nate and I both do. It is why we are such a prefect couple.
“Get up, Soph.” Nate calls from the bathroom.
“I am up.” I get off the bed, and cross over to the bathroom. I quickly brush my teeth and pull my long black hair back into a perfect French braid.
“Are you ready, Soph?” Nate asks. I sling my bookbag over a shoulder. As if I needed it. These courses were already things I’ve studied.
“Lets go, hon.” Nate says and kisses me on the cheek.

It is only a fifteen minute drive to school, or a half hour walk from Nate’s house. We enter through the front doors, where the hallways teem with freshmen, sophomores, and seniors, As Nate and I walk through, whispered conversations turn to us.
“It’s Sophia and Nate.” One girl whispers. I hear their thoughts. I hear their voices. It is too much, dizzying, in fact. I swoon and fall, and Nate has to move quickly to catch me.

“Soph. Soph. Sophia Alexandria Giovanni, wake up!” I hear my mom call me. Nate is clutching my hands and I feel his pulse racing.
“Your awake.” My mom says. I nod, looking straight into my mothers eyes. They are a flashy shade of purple, like mine. She is also a vampire, like me. The events of the morning rush back to me, and not hunting last night.
“Did you hunt last night?” Mother asks. I shake my head.
“Well, that can wait. Now I have something important.” I sigh. To mother, a fly in the house is important.
“I’ve never told you this story, and I’ll skip to the nub and gist. You are a Vampire Princess, who needs to jet over to India, so she can get started on her mission. If you succeed this mission, you get crowned a princess. If you fail, then you are killed by a pack of ravenous wolves.” My mother does keep this story short.
“When do we leave?” I ask.
“You and Nate leave in a half hour.” Mother tells me.
“Nate’s coming?” I ask
“Yes. Sophia, keep up. Now lets move.” Mother herded me up off the camp cot I am lying on, and through the schools front doors. She drives us to the Calgary Internatinal Ariport. She helps us board a private jumbo jet, where Nate and I took seats facing each other.
“Vampire Princess?” Nate asks, “Does this make me your Vampire Prince?”
“If you choose,” I reply saucily. We lean in to kiss, a long full make out scene, until a butler whispers in my ear.
“Your Highness. We are landing soon.” He says. I can smell the blood lingering on his breath. It reminds me that I am starving.
“Would you like a raw steak, Miss?” He asks.
“Yes. And one for him as well.” I say. Nate’s brown hair falls into his eyes.
“I’ve already eaten.” Nate protests.
“Liar,” I say. “Get him two.”

We land in Calcutta, at nighttime. We are moved to a palace, like the Taj Mahal, only not.
“Your Highness. You are needed in the confrence room.” A voice says over my shoulder. Five seconds in India and I’ve already been summoned.

Answer :
I love this! I hope it won't evolve into a twilight prototype.. you really have your own style in this. I was hooked straight from the first sentence! Oh, by the way, you can post it here : http://writerfriendly.webs.com/ and get advice and suggestions. Though, don't worry, it's all free, no charge. Hope I see this on there soon!~*

Answer :
I liked it up to the story your main character's mother tells her ( about being a princess ) . It came out of nowhere . Not in a good way . Try to rework it .
All in all , great job !

Answer :
I know that usually the only answers picked as best answer for these book reviews are ones that please the poster; the ones that say the plot is original and enthralling, that i would read it were it a book, and that i think you have a good future in writing. It's not like my opinions are much different from that, but I'm not going to sugarcoat my opinions.

HERE WE GO:
-is this the very start of the book? I don't think this is a good way to start it, because there is no information on who the characters are (and even if that is the way you wanted) it begins too abruptly.
-so she's a vampire and she has fangs...but she goes to public school? Wouldn't people notice her fangs?
-Nate's a vampire too, right? then why would he have a pulse? In ancient lore, vampires drink blood only because they are dead and have no pumping heart to circulate their own, so they must replenish it as a source of food.
-at first, sophia is lying next to nate, telling him to get up for school, and the next minute, he is in the bathroom, telling HER to get ready for school. this makes no sense.
-if she and nate craved solitude, she wouldn't classify it as being lonely (even if she said it in a positive way). also, if they wanted to be alone, why would this make them perfect partners? wouldn't they want to be by themselves and not with each other? I'm not saying that they shouldn't be a couple, just that Sophia should say that that makes them compatible. It's like Rudolf saying to the little elf: "lets be independent together!" -it just doesn't make sense.
-Nate tacks Soph, or hun after his sentences too often. its sweet every once and a while, but its just annoying if he says it after every sentence.
-if Sophia has gone through school so many times that she's memorized the material, then the simple task of facing malicious thoughts and words shouldn't be sooo overpowering after all of the practice she's had.
-the whole "your a vampire princess but didn't know it and now you had to do something hard or will be eaten by vicious wolves" seems overrated. i mean, all the viewers know that she's not actually going to fail and be eaten by wolves. and wolves? vamps. vs. wolves is very overdone.
-the "my mother does keep this story short" sentence sounds awkward. rephrase that.
-sophia's whole life is about to change, her mother won't offer a better explanation, and she's totally cool about it. whats up with that? it is unrealistic and uninteresting.
-instead of saying "i reply saucily" how about "i reply seductively?" it sounds better, especially if she's trying to get him to kiss her.
-doesn't nate have parents? why is he coming along anyway? just to thicken the plot or provide interest? you need to have a logical reason.
-whats with the butlers knowing they're all vampires? is he a vampire too? why else would he have blood "lingering on his breath"?
-the butler shouldn't whisper in her ear. it sounds unprofessional and plain creepy.
-the whole raw steak scene with the: are you hungry? no. yes you are. i will make sure you eat!! thing seems kinda...lame. i mean, going without eating, especially for vampires, seems really painful. why would nate be a martyr and say he's already ate when he didn't? is he trying to impress her? it didn't work...
-why is everyone calling her "Your Highness?" i mean, i know that she's a "vampire princess" but it's getting really annoying.

Okay, sorry about that. when i critique stories, i give my honest opinions and critique hard (i mean, not that hard!) because its better to be shown a fault or given another opinion then to just hear if someone thinks it "rocks". because that doesn't help you progress at all. at least in my opinion.
if you don't plan on trying to get this published upon finishing it, then i think its great! its wonderful to express your ideas and opinions through writing. if not, then you will need to look heavily on your grammar and plot line. Vampires are becoming really overused in today's society of literature, and you will not be published if your vamp novel isn't top notch and incredibly original, which it isn't yet.
I wish you luck, and if you want to chat or work on original plot points or proof-reading, please contact me and i will be much softer in my approach, lol! i think that you have a good base to work off of! it seems interesting, but should develop your characters more! Good luck!

(i had to edit in my full answer in pieces so that it would all fit, but i'm done now! :D)

Answer :
it was OK
but u messed it up right here

"I’ve never told you this story, and I’ll skip to the nub and gist.
“Nate’s coming?” I ask

when the girl replies shessss way to rational about it.
its unreal.

your going wayyyyyy to fast, and to make it good, you need to slow down and elaborate.

Taj Mahal, not a wonder afterall?

I am Indian, and many people say that the Taj Mahal is the icon for India.People mainly know it as 1 of the 7 wonders of the world. YES it is beautiful and historical. But should Indian's be proud of it? Personally I don't appreciate the Taj Mahal strictly because of what happened to the builders. The creator was a muslim, Shah Jahan who had hired Indian achitects to build the Taj Mahal. After it was made, he had the builders' hands chopped off, as well as their families' so the work cannot be recreated or taught. That's disrespect and shameful. I admire the sweat and blood the Indians put into creating this piece of art, and I give them all the credit in the world. But everytime I see the Taj Mahal, I'm reminded of what happened to my people, and it's disgraceful.
What do you think?

Additional Details

btw, im not saying its not beautiful..it definitely is! there's always a story behind a historical structure..and this is one of them. we all have our opinions, this one is mine :) just want to hear what other's were thinking..thanks.

Answer :
Actually, that story is just not true. No one had their hands cut off. It's an OLD "urban legend".
Whether it was a lie for political reasons, personal reasons, of religious reasons .... it was still a lie used to discredit the builders.

The construction of the building was HIGHLY documented and
employed literally thousands of artisans and craftsmen.

The construction of the Taj Mahal was entrusted to a board of architects under imperial supervision including Abd ul-Karim Ma'mur Khan, Makramat Khan, and Ustad Ahmad Lahauri.
Please note.....NONE of those names are Hindu, they are MUSLIM.

This was BIG BUSINESS.
They KNEW this building was going to be one of the fineist ever built and documented names, dates, etc.

Builders were brought in from all over, any builder that was available.

No evidence WHATSOEVER exists for claims that describe, often in horrific detail, the deaths, dismemberments and mutilations which Shah Jahan supposedly inflicted on various architects and craftsmen associated with the tomb. It just wasn't true.
The records are fairly thorough.

Further more, it would have been impossible.

Think about it ..... you are going to destroy EVERY capable craftsman and builders, AND an entire board of architects?
Thousands of men?
A great many beautiful and incredible structures were built directly after the Taj Mahal.
If all their builders had no hands...... who built them?

It was built in India in 1632!
NOT the Dark Ages by barbarians but by an extremely intelligent highly developed society of architects, designers, and builders.

The American colonies were already growing in 1632!
(Remember Columbus discovered the Americas in 1492)
India was highly civilized and a world trade GIANT by 1632, not a hand-chopping-off pack of idiot barbarians.

Yes, it is an incredible building, but Jews, Muslims, and Christians has had incredbile structures all over Europe by 1632.... for hundreds of years

Do NOT believe such silly fairy tales, my friend!

*****EDIT*****
ammianus - you are correct, Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, the chief architect, was PERSIAN.
In fact, the entire region was part of the Mughal Empire, an Islamic Persianate.
Muhammad Nur-ud-din Salim Jahangir, the previous emperor's main architect, Mir Abd-ul Karim was one of the top board designers, along with Makramat Khan.

These people were Mughals .... Persians!

Mumtāz Mahal, the lovely lady this tomb was built FOR .... She was religiously a Shi'a Muslim.

There were NO Hindu Indians involved here.

Answer :
We're not looking at the history, it's the architecture.

To me, the Taj Mahal is a true beauty, ignore the fact that all the ancient kings those days were nutters.

When you're reminded of what happened to your people, appreciate their hard work and sacrifice. People those days were very loyal, to both their king and country, don't insult their sacrifice.

So what if Shah Jahan was a Muslim? This is no reason to be prejudiced against others.

If you truly want to appreciate this wonder, admire it's beauty instead of lamenting it's faults.

It's the best you can do.

Cheers!!!!!!!!

Answer :
I must agree with you there to the fact that they were handled terribly after...i had never heard that part of the story till now.
Most people have only heard of ITS story not what happened to the slaves so i guess thats why we all think it's such a beautiful wonder.
But it IS beautiful, and its beauty is what captures the eyes of the world. I guess you can be proud of the Taj Mahal itself and not what happened to the slaves.

Answer :
Hope you are fine.

Yeah you are right. My heart also feel for those who put all their hard works and life's to build the TAJ MAHAL. They were also humans , they have their right to live as they want. But they suffered. So I also think more of them instead of TAJ MAHAL.. Because human blood is more precious then any thing.

Good about you that you thought of them .

Hope you like it.

Thank you.

Answer :
Hi dear ,
I am really sad to hear this story , it is shameful . but it still an icon of beauty but this event may change my opinion towards that Shah but not for the building itself & you must be proud as after all that your events were who built it .
Always human mix between beauty & cruelty .

Answer :
As far as I'm aware, the plans for Taj Mahal are in Persian, and Shah Jehan imported Persian architects to design and build it, the chief architect being Lahauri.
Looks like you've been listening to anti-Muslim propaganda, and swallowing it whole.

Answer :
The mutilation story has not been proved to be true. It is considered one of many myths surrounding the Taj Mahal. No evidence has been found to prove the story. One rumour is that the story is told to tourists.

Answer :
I'm not Indian, and won't tell you how to feel about it, but it would seem more fitting to see the Taj Mahal as a monument to the builders, rather than as a reminder of what happened to them after they built it.

Answer :
I see what you mean.
But the world sees it as a marvelous architecture . Sadly, no one wants to know about the history or the facts you mentioned...

What interesting places are there to visit in india?

besides taj mahal.

Answer :
India is HUGE and has tons of fascinating places to visit. However, it's best to plan your trip according to the seasons. I was in India in the summertime so it's good to escape the heat and go up north. Ladakh is very beautiful, has high altitude landscape and Buddhist and Kashmiri Culture. If you are interested in Tibetan Buddhist culture the place to be is Macloud Gange above Dharamsallah. Parvati Valley is very scenic and relaxed. The most fascinating Hindi cultural sites I've experienced were Varanassi and Rishikesh. There is the beautiful golden temple of the Sikhs in Amritzar and I;ve heard wonderful things about a lot of other places as well. There are really endless places to visit. Try the lonely planet website for ideas. If you land in New Dheli be warned: it isn't the most pleasant city, but don't jump to conclusions about all of India because of it! Just be prepared to venture outside the city to fully appreciate the country. It has fascinating cultures and breathtaking landscapes (particularly in the far north). Enjoy!

Answer :
if ur an animal lover than visit 'the jim corbett park', ranthambore park, bharatpur sanctuary, kannah national park etc. for monuments- you must see the Qutab minar in the capital ( new delhi) , humayun's tomb and many more.
its best to buy a Travel book about india so the you can visit places you like and want to to see eg. monuments, national park, mountain, beaches, deserts, wet forest ( east india), religious spots, river sides etc.
since the country is huge and its history is very old there's alot to see in the country!!
so best of luck!!

I am half Indian half African American and I'm wondering what would be a beautiful souvenir from India? I already have a little model of the Taj Mahal from my first visit when I was 11 months. And a picture with some fortune teller that told me that I was going to die unmarried when I was 2. And I have a beautiful amulet that I only wear on special occasions when I was 5 and well to make this story short I have 3anklets,6bracelets,5necklaces,1amulet,1 model of taj mahal,4 pairs of beautiful golden Indian earings,2 toerings,2 regular rings,1 golden watch,2 headbands, and a countless amount of pictures. I feel like I've gotten it all! What should I get this time because I keep all of this stuff in a big like glass container that takes up an entire wall in my livingroom. but it isn't full and I want it to be! So what should I get this time. I am willing to spend up to 150 dollars of it.

The Taj Mahal is one of the most famous buildings in India, and possibly the world.?

In your opinion, what characteristics of this building cause it to be thought of as the epitomy of elegance and grace?

Answer :
As Helen said, it WAS a gesture of love.

Architecturally speaking, it is a design in pure perfection.
Symmetrically stunning, perfect balance from side to side, but ALSO, the reflection of the entire structure coming right back to you from the reflection pool ..... genius.

The reflective pool image also gives you this slightly surreal vision, like a dream version, or heavenly version.

The only thing larger in the picture would be the sky, i.e. God.
And perfect blue against perfect white .... lovely, like clouds in in a blue sky.

Symbolically, it is a masterpiece, and a tribute to the imagination of man.

Artistically, it is Paradise.
(Paradise is actually described here as an ideal garden of abundance with four rivers flowing from a central spring or mountain, separating the garden into north, west, south and east.)

It is the Garden of Eden.
It is Paradise.
It is Heaven.
Or at least the closet we as human will get to describing it.

Answer :
it was a love gesture .... and maybe is one of the most buildings in the world .... in india im sure that is famous

Text Source: Taj Mahal, Mausoleum of Mumtaz Mahal

Taj Mahal is regarded as one of the eight wonders of the world, and some Western historians have noted that its architectural beauty has never been surpassed. The Taj is the most beautiful monument built by the Mughals, the Muslim rulers of India. Taj Mahal is built entirely of white marble. Its stunning architectural beauty is beyond adequate description, particularly at dawn and sunset. The Taj seems to glow in the light of the full moon. On a foggy morning, the visitors experience the Taj as if suspended when viewed from across the Jamuna river.

Taj Mahal was built by a Muslim, Emperor Shah Jahan (died 1666 C.E.) in the memory of his dear wife and queen Mumtaz Mahal at Agra, India. It is an "elegy in marble" or some say an expression of a "dream." Taj Mahal (meaning Crown Palace) is a Mausoleum that houses the grave of queen Mumtaz Mahal at the lower chamber. The grave of Shah Jahan was added to it later. The queen’s real name was Arjumand Banu. In the tradition of the Mughals, important ladies of the royal family were given another name at their marriage or at some other significant event in their lives, and that new name was commonly used by the public. Shah Jahan's real name was Shahab-ud-din, and he was known as Prince Khurram before ascending to the throne in 1628.

Taj Mahal was constructed over a period of twenty-two years, employing twenty thousand workers. It was completed in 1648 C.E. at a cost of 32 Million Rupees. The construction documents show that its master architect was Ustad ‘Isa, the renowned Islamic architect of his time. The documents contain names of those employed and the inventory of construction materials and their origin. Expert craftsmen from Delhi, Qannauj, Lahore, and Multan were employed. In addition, many renowned Muslim craftsmen from Baghdad, Shiraz and Bukhara worked on many specialized tasks.

The Taj stands on a raised, square platform (186 x 186 feet) with its four corners truncated, forming an unequal octagon. The architectural design uses the interlocking arabesque concept, in which each element stands on its own and perfectly integrates with the main structure. It uses the principles of self-replicating geometry and a symmetry of architectural elements.

Its central dome is fifty-eight feet in diameter and rises to a height of 213 feet. It is flanked by four subsidiary domed chambers. The four graceful, slender minarets are 162.5 feet each. The entire mausoleum (inside as well as outside) is decorated with inlaid design of flowers and calligraphy using precious gems such as agate and jasper. The main archways, chiseled with passages from the Holy Qur’an and the bold scroll work of flowery pattern, give a captivating charm to its beauty. The central domed chamber and four adjoining chambers include many walls and panels of Islamic decoration.

The mausoleum is a part of a vast complex comprising of a main gateway, an elaborate garden, a mosque (to the left), a guest house (to the right), and several other palatial buildings. The Taj is at the farthest end of this complex, with the river Jamuna behind it. The large garden contains four reflecting pools dividing it at the center. Each of these four sections is further subdivided into four sections and then each into yet another four sections. Like the Taj, the garden elements serve like Arabesque, standing on their own and also constituting the whole.

Taj Mahal is dying. Help.?

I got a huge building, completely made of marble. Owing to the rising pollution and dust, in the hot and humid climate of central india, I want to protect my Marble building from being stained and turn black due to soot deposit.

if you haven't figured it out yet, I am talking about the great wonder of the world - The Taj Mahal. Its made of marble. Its the only reason, why Agra is visible as a micro Dot on the world Map. And the only reason why its not getting any bigger.

Pollution is everywhere, so is corrupt politicians. Agra has for long been in the limelight for The great Taj Mahal. And now a days its going in the newspapers for all the wrong reasons. politicians see a huge potential in the great tourist attraction place of india. Their most profitable source for minting money.

There's hardly any industrialization here due to the pollution control law passed by the government. I mean common! We're in the 21st century, where androids bomb afghanistan, cellphones are worn as wristbands, ice skating is a favourite sport in An Arabian Desert. And much more than this. In this golden era, the Agraiets are left to nothing but nail biting and cursing the government and the great taj Mahal. It may be great for a billion people, but I guess its losing its charm.

Agra is filthy, dirty, crowded, and one of the most backward cities of india. Politics or no politics, agra deserves to improve in both infrastructure, and lifestyle.

I was only reading the newspaper today, and discovered that they are planning to build a small rope-bridge from Taj Mahal to Agra Fort. Which will have a 800 ton HVAC facility for the tourist.

The whole article enumerate so many flaws and bad direction to the plan, that its not worth a debate. Politicians should focus more on infrastructure, employment and economy. All they are actually working on, is perhaps new ways to extort money from the system.

Its a shame. And We all need to get to the bottom of all this.

How can you protect a marble monument from getting soot deposit due to pollution? I got a few options, would love some comments and more options available.

1. Wash the entire building everyday.
2. Put some chemical, or some Teflon coating, on it to prevent it from getting stained. Any chemical engineers?
3. Cover the entire monument with glass cover and install HEPA filters all around it. (its funny, but atleast I'm trying).
4. Sell it to the USA. Let them figure out what to do with It. I'm sure they'll do well. (chuckles)

Well what do you guys think?

Answer :
definately it can be restored but that requires money and i dont know how much money, our government want to spend

Answer :
Great! Taj Mahal is not dying... it's already dead.. It's a grave yard of many people.. I hope everyone knows this....

For your question, what I can say is... it all depends on government. Definitely our government would take care of this...

Answer :
a third of the tourism dollars should go into its care and preservation.
You are right. It is a testament to beauty and love and is one of the wonders of the world for its architecture and magnificence.

petition the government to divert the fees required to visit the Taj into a foundation for its preservation. Send out invitations for proposals as to how to achieve this.Choose the most appropriate tender.

Security still lacking one year after Mumbai attacks?

Mumbai remains a target one year on from a deadly militant attack, experts say, calling for more to be done to improve security in the city and elsewhere in India to prevent another strike.

"Can 26/11 happen again? Yes, any time," warned retired Major General V.K. Datta, India's most decorated army officer, referring to the November 26 attacks that killed 166 people and injured more than 300 last year.

The acting head of Maharashtra state police, A.N. Roy, said greater vigilance and better counter-terrorism measures were vital because Mumbai, the state capital, played a key role in India's economy.

His counterpart at Mumbai police, D. Sivanandan, said improvements have been made since the force was found lacking training, equipment and manpower against the 10 heavily armed Islamist gunmen who stormed the city 12 months ago.

More police in Mumbai and other Indian cities would provide a more effective first response to any future attack, analysts said, also calling for greater use of technology and better coordination between central and state agencies.

"We have not improved our preventive capability," Datta told India Today magazine earlier this month.

Home Minister P. Chidambaram, praised for pushing security up the agenda since his appointment late last year, also warned that India is just as vulnerable as before, calling the response to the Mumbai attacks "mixed."

In Mumbai itself there have been noticeable changes.

Luxury hotels such as the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower, which was targeted by gunmen, has introduced tougher baggage screening and searches, while sandbagged machinegun positions appeared at key locations.

A new base for 250 elite National Security Guard commandos -- one of four around the country -- opened in Mumbai after criticism that they only arrived from their north India headquarters 10 hours after the first shots were fired.

Both the Maharashtra and Mumbai police have also set up their own rapid reaction forces as part of a 1.3-billion-rupee (28-million-dollar) state government investment in training and equipment.

The Mumbai police central control room is being modernised and security cameras installed around the city, Sivanandan told business leaders earlier this month.

"As far as the police is concerned, whatever is possible is being done. We have got a long way to go. Give me another 100 crores (one billion rupees) and I will do a lot better than this," he said.

Some experts say that after a spate of bombings across India in 2008, the fact there has been no attack in the country in the last 12 months is proof the measures have been effective.

But some plans, including a promised improved coastal security system -- seen as vital because the gunmen arrived undetected by sea -- are yet to materialise.

Others believe Pakistan's intelligence agency and army, which New Delhi blames for supporting the attacks, are focused on gathering unrest at home rather than sponsoring assaults on their neighbour.

Ajai Sahni, executive director of the Institute of Conflict Management and editor of the South Asia Intelligence Review, called the changes in homeland security "nothing more than symbolic."

"In terms of actual capacity, response or overall security, there's been no significant change," he told AFP, blaming a lack of political will to tackle the problem effectively.

Maharashtra state police's Roy, though, said more had been done than after previous attacks on the city.

But he added: "Whereas the terrorists have access to the latest technology, communications and resources, we still are many, many, many steps behind. We are at a very nascent stage."

Sahni said boosting police capacity was vital as forces across India are severely understaffed, particularly of experienced senior officers.

Currently, enforcement of security measures is difficult because Mumbai has only 48,000 officers for an official population of about 14 million, he added.

The central government has said it will recruit 150,000 low-ranking police officers across the country by next March, though some experts say quality police using modern technology should be the biggest priority.

Roy told a security conference this month: "Today, we feel much more confident than we were one year ago -- but there is still a long way to go."

Besides the Taj Mahal, what are the best places in India to visit?

I am going to India in February on business. I am going to be there for three weeks and was wondering what are some other places worth visiting. I am actually going to be staying in Kolkata on the eastern side of the country. As of right now the only place I know I am going is the Taj Mahal, which is far far away from where I am staying as it is...

Answer :
You can choose from any of the following 3 itineraries.
--------------------------------------…
ONE

Finish your business. Dedicate your free time in visiting Kolkata and around comprehensively. The time that you will be left with suit this itinerary the most as it will cheap, not all tiresome and confusing.

Kolkata
http://wikitravel.org/en/Kolkata
--------------------------------------…
TWO

Same as ONE. Add a visit to Taj Mahal. Here the cost will go up as you have to take a flight to Agra. and other expenses. If you are returning home via Delhi. You reach Delhi a few days early. Visit Taj Mahal in Agra. then return.

Taj Mahal
http://wikitravel.org/en/Agra#Taj_Mahal
--------------------------------------…
THREE
You finish your business in Kolkata and make Delhi your base before returning home.

Now think of a triangle. If Delhi is at the top corner of the triangle, then Taj Mahal (in Agra) is in the right corner of the triangle and Jaipur (in Rajasthan) in the left corner. In the triangle you will find, Amritsar. Outside the triangle in the right, Shimla, hill station will greet you.

This itinerary will be most costliest one among the three. If you have not made 1st class arrangements and reservations / advance bookings, then your holiday will be very disappointing as your duration of stay is very short and time is very tight.

India

Delhi

Taj Mahal

Jaipur
http://wikitravel.org/en/Jaipur

Shimla
http://wikitravel.org/en/Shimla

Amritsar
http://wikitravel.org/en/Amritsar
--------------------------------------…
Now 1st decide the best itinerary that suits you the most. Then if your are base is in Kolkata, that is option One and Two, contact your Hotel Manager and tell him to make arrangements and advance reservations / bookings.

Otherwise the manger of Delhi hotel where you stay in the option Three.

I suggest that you please go through all the links and then decide on which itinerary to choose.
--------------------------------------…
My personal suggestion will be wherever you go, go once to the Taj Mahal. Its beauty is not comparable with any other structure in the world. But if you have seen Statue of Liberty and Eiffel Tower. You will be more pleased.

I am an Indian. Born and brought up in Kolkata. Have been to all the parts of India due to by education and profession.

Answer :
As you plan on travellng from Kolkata to Agra, you might as well do the 'Golden Triangle', which consists of Delhi and Jaipur apart from Agra. In Delhi, people visit the Qutub Minar, Red Fort and the Lotus temple. Many tourist agencies organize tours for the Triangle, but you can hire a car too depending on your budget. Jaipur is in Rajasthan, and is most popular among foreign tourists. If you have your own (rented)car and time to spare, you can visit the nearby Bikaner, Jaisalmer 'The Golden City', and Jodhpur. All are extremely popular and have hotels suiting every budget. Near Delhi is Fatehpur Sikhri, a fort constructed by emperor Akbar.
If you want to visit the mountains and not the desert, you can either travel to Chandigarh, where you can catch a connecting train to Shimla, the Summer capital of the British Era. Or, you can travel to Haridwar(the holy city of the Hindus) from Delhi, which is also at the foothills of the Himalayas, and major piligrimage sites and tourist destinations are all closeby, i.e Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Dehra Dun, Mussoorie, etc.
EAST
Near Nepal and Bhutan in North Bengal in Darjeeling, a famous hill station known for tea.
From there you can visit Kaziranga National Park, which is quite far away though, but is very famous
South
Bangalore- IT city
Tamil Nadu- The state of Temples
Kerala for its beaches
HOpe I helped and good luck!

Answer :

Answer :
I believe Taj Mahal was actualy a Shiva Temple.
Its modified to Taj Mahal, its present form with order from Shahjahan.

Pls find the link http://funpen.org/index.php/2008/12/its-…
to find out more about it.

Although Indian Supreme court declared this claim as invalid - I believe some of these facts are true.

Answer :
Indians in general are happy to know your appreciation for Tajmahal monument.

To be honest Indians in general are broad minded and accepting good of each Country. We therefore have chinese food, Mexican food popular here. Besides English language which is not our Mother tongue but still it rules our Country.

Indian in general, believe in humanity and love individuals of any country. Even we love Pakistanis though few of whom are misguided by their leadership and doing cruel actions to Indians.

So you are true human being and keep it up not only for India but for all humans of this universe. God bless you and your Parents who nurtured your love for humanity.

Delhi-Mumbai-Goa-Kerela in 15 Days? Mission Impossible?

Hey all, I have a little problem of always being optimistic with time!

Lol - I want to go to India in February 2010 for just over 2 weeks. There is a wedding in Goa for 3 days (11th-13th Feb) so we will need to be in Goa for that.

The plan was to fly in to Delhi and fly out from Cochin (Kerela).

We were going in from Delhi becasue my BF insists on seeing the Taj Mahal. I am equally excited about spending time in Kerela.

However now that ive started looking at the map properly, I'm thinking that its simply not possible to to travel that stretch of West India in 15 days. SO the options are:

1. Delhi - few days in Delhi and Agra. Internal flight to Mumbai. couple days in Mumbai. Train/Coach to Goa. Boat from Goa to Kerela.

2. Delhi - few days in Dehli/Agra. Train/Coach to Mumbai. Few days in Mumbai. Remaining time in and around Goa.

3. Delhi - few days in Delhi/Agra. Coach/Train to Mumbai. Couple days in Mumbai. Couple days in Goa. INternal Flight from Goa to Kerela.

I really dont know what to do! I would love to see the entire region but it would be helpful if I could get some opinions on whether that would just be too stressful for 15 days.

THanks All in advance!

Answer :
Hi Chi!!! Welcome to India (in advance ;))

Mission Possible is the smallest possible answer.

I am assuming you are arriving in Delhi. If not plan to do so.

Day 1: Acclimatise to the India (literally that is) and do some sightseeing in Delhi.
Day 2: Take an early train to Agra. Do the sightseeing full day and then checkin for an overnight stay.
Day 3: Go to Mathura to visit Vrindavan which happens to be a Hindu religious site of great importance. Return back to Delhi for an overnight stay.
Day 4-6: Arrive at Goa. Take an early morning flight to Goa direct (honestly you can give Mumbai a miss as there is not much to see I mean in a short time and not to rush through).
Day 7: Take an early morning train to Kerala. Prefer a day train to wow the scenic journey through the Western Ghats (till Mangalore). You take a train to Ernakulam Jn. This will be your railhead. You should arrive after a 15hrs approx. late night of the same day. Rest for the night.
Day 8-9: Go to places you want to like the boathouses in backwaters of Alappuzha (Alleppey). Leave late evening of Day 9 to Kumarakom near Trivandrum. Its a nice beach. But I would recommend you head to the hills of Munnar.
Day 10-12: Enjoy in Munnar or Kumarakom which ever you choose.
Day 13: Take an early morning flight from Kochi (Cochin) or Trivandrum depending on your choice of destination (Munnar or Kumarakom) for Mumbai. You should reach Mumbai by mid-day.
Day 13-15: Do sightseeing in and around Mumbai (like Mahabaleshwar, Lonavla & Mumbai city itself).
Day 15: Take the flight from Mumbai to your destination (assuming you are from US of A) you could take various connections like Mumbai- Dubai- JFK or Mumbai- Amsterdam- New York or other destinations in USA).

Good luck and have a gala time!!!

I would again say this........ plan to spend as little time in Mumbai as possible. You can use that time at Agra and in Kerala. Trust me... you wont curse me atleast!!! Heheheheheh!!!!
